Are you ready for some holiday play time? This is a workshop special in which we will study fun spinning and sliding techniques for both the leader and follower. We will begin with balance and placement techniques and learn the fundamentals of connection, momentum, and energy release. We will also address how to double and triple your turns without getting dizzy. These techniques can be learned with only the knowledge of the 6-count basic. ( pre-req – adv basic swing) note: dance shoes with suede soles are recommended for this class! This will be a solid opportunity for students to take their Balboa to an entire new level.  We have included some sweet patterns and tricks into the choreography and expect several returning talents from our last performance class. There will be 2 opportunities to perform at the end of our session (one will be on Friday August 1st). Line Dances with Paolo
Saturday Oct 6th, 1-4 pm 2007

1pm The Shim Sham – a line dance based on early jazz/tap dance steps. Lindy Hoppers have taken this original routine and made it their own. Includes specific steps such as the Shim Sham, the Cross Over, The Tacky Annie, The Half Break.
2pm The Madison – A playful line dance that originated in the late 1950’s and is made of up steps like the Jackie Gleason and the Basketball with the Wilt Chamberlain Hook.
3pm  The Dean Collins Shim Sham – like the 30’s Shim Sham, this includes more variations and takes it’s name from Dean Collins who added the unique variations on the original. This class will also combine some of these steps so that you can included them in your social dancing.

Balboa Crash Course

This Balboa Dance Workshop will cover the basics of this cool California born Swing Dance. This is a 3 hour introductory intensive that will get you rolling in this dance. The Balboa of this was created in Balboa Island, California during the 1930s. Balboa is built on smooth, tight footwork and is ideal for fast tempos. It is also very adaptable and can be performed to slow music as well. The Balboa originated in a large ballroom on Balboa Island in southern California. Swing Dance Experience helpful but not necessary. $30 at the door (reduced price if you sign up in advance.
